§162 Control; Regulations; Leases; Sale and Removal of Timber

Summary

Places Glacier National Park under the sole control of the Secretary of the Interior, who must, as soon as possible, make and publish rules to care for, protect, manage, and improve the park and to keep it as natural as the park’s purposes allow. The rules must also protect fish and wildlife inside the park. The Secretary can lease land for buildings: up to 10 acres at one site to a person or company for up to 20 years for visitor facilities, and up to 1 acre for up to 20 years for people who have built or are allowed to build summer homes or cottages. The Secretary can also sell and allow removal of mature, dead, or fallen timber when needed to protect or improve the park.
