Title 16 › Chapter 1— NATIONAL PARKS, MILITARY PARKS, MONUMENTS, AND SEASHORES › Subchapter XX— GLACIER NATIONAL PARK › § 164
The Secretary of the Interior can acquire full ownership of private or State land inside Glacier National Park in townships 32 and 33 north, ranges 18 and 19 west of the Montana principal meridian to remove private holdings and protect the forest along scenic park roads. He may do this by trading trees of about equal value (dead, dying, or mature) that can be removed without harming the scenery; with the Secretary of Agriculture’s approval those trees may come from Montana national forests. Or he may accept owners’ complete give-up of their land and give them like public land of equal value in Montana, after publishing notice for not less than 30 days in the counties where the lands are located.
