If someone intentionally does what section 2403(a) forbids, they can be charged with a crime. The punishment can be a fine of $10,000, up to one year in jail, or both. Being convicted here does not stop separate convictions under other laws, including the Marine Mammal Protection Act, the Endangered Species Act, and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
