§2432 Definitions

Antarctic Convergence — the ocean boundary that marks the Antarctic area; Antarctic marine living resources — all fish, shellfish, birds, and other living creatures found south of the Antarctic Convergence; Commission — the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources; Convention — the Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources done at Canberra on May 7, 1980, and in force for the United States on April 7, 1982; Harvesting or other associated activities — harming, hunting, capturing, trying to do those things, any activity likely to cause those things, and sea operations that support or prepare for them; Harvest — to take part in harvesting or associated activities; Import — to bring or try to bring Antarctic marine life into any place under U.S. jurisdiction, whether or not customs would call it an import; Person — an individual, partnership, corporation, trust, association, or any other entity under U.S. jurisdiction; Scientific Committee — the Scientific Committee for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources; Vessel of the United States — a vessel documented under chapter 121 of title 46 or numbered under chapter 123 of that title, or one owned in whole or in part by the U.S., a U.S. territory, a State or political subdivision, a U.S. citizen or national, or a U.S. corporation, unless it has been granted foreign nationality under Article 5 of the 1958 Convention on the High Seas, and also a vessel that was once U.S.-documented but was illegally sold or placed under a foreign flag; Vessel subject to the jurisdiction of the United States — includes vessels without nationality or treated as without nationality under paragraph (2) of Article 6 of the 1958 Convention on the High Seas.
