Title 16 › Chapter 1— NATIONAL PARKS, MILITARY PARKS, MONUMENTS, AND SEASHORES › Subchapter XXXII— NEZ PERCE NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK › § 281c
The Secretary of the Interior can add certain lands to the Nez Perce National Historical Park, but only with the landowner’s or agency’s agreement. That includes Indian trust land if the beneficial owner agrees, and Federal sites under other agencies if the agency agrees. Adding a site does not move day‑to‑day control unless the agency gives permission. The Secretary may work with the Nez Perce Tribe or the agency on research, interpretation, visitor services, public access, and protecting scenic and other resources. The Secretary may also make cooperative agreements with private or non‑Federal owners to help preserve and interpret their properties. Those agreements must let the Secretary visit public areas at reasonable times to lead visitors and interpret the site, and they must require the Secretary’s written permission before making any changes to buildings or grounds.
