The Secretary of the Interior may acquire land on San Juan Island by donation, purchase with donated or appropriated funds, or exchange to preserve and interpret the American and English camps and the 1853–1871 events, including the Pig War (1859). Land owned by the State of Washington or its political subdivisions may be acquired only by donation.
