Gives simple meanings for important words used in the chapter. Conserve/conservation means using methods to protect and improve fish, wildlife, and their habitats for the public, and can include things like research, habitat work, law enforcement, education, population control, and moving animals. Designated State agency means the state government office that does what a state fish and wildlife agency normally does. Fish and wildlife means wild animals that are not confined. Fund means the Wildlife Conservation and Appreciation Fund established under section 3744(g) of this title. National Fish and Wildlife Foundation means the nonprofit corporation created under section 3701 of this title. Nonconsumptive activities are wildlife activities that do not involve harvesting, such as photographing, watching, or learning about animals. Secretary means the Secretary of the Interior, acting through the Director of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. State means the 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and American Samoa. Wildlife conservation and appreciation project means a project aimed at nonconsumptive activities or conserving species that (A) are not usually taken for recreation, fur, or food (except where state law allows taking only in some areas), (B) are not listed as endangered or threatened under the Endangered Species Act (16 U.S.C. 1531–1543), and (C) are not marine mammals as defined in section 1362(6) of this title.
