Title 16 › CHAPTER 58 — ERODIBLE LAND AND WETLAND CONSERVATION AND RESERVE PROGRAM › SUBCHAPTER IV — AGRICULTURAL RESOURCES CONSERVATION PROGRAM › Part V — Other Conservation Programs › § 3839bb
Allows the Secretary of Agriculture to set up a voluntary program that gives technical help, education, and related support to people and agencies who own or manage non-federal grazing lands. The program works through local conservation districts and, if funded, must be paid from a specific Natural Resources Conservation Service budget line. It helps with things like better grazing practices, planning and managing land, fighting weeds and brush, protecting water quality and supplies, improving wildlife and fish habitat, boosting recreation and the look of the land, and finding new grazing-related business options. Trained Department of Agriculture staff will give help when asked, and the Secretary will work with land-grant colleges and nonprofit groups. The Secretary may create up to two grazing demonstration districts if producers ask, with producer-proposed rules that the Secretary approves if they are reasonable, promote sound grazing, and match parts of the beef promotion order that was in effect on April 4, 1996. Demonstrations must be scientifically sound and use a technical advisory group. Department = Department of Agriculture. Private grazing land = private, State, tribal, and other non-federal rangeland, pasture, grazed forest, and hay land. Secretary = Secretary of Agriculture. Congress authorized $60,000,000 for each fiscal year 2002 through 2023 to carry out the program.
