§404c–3 Criminal Offenses Concerning Hunting, Fishing, and Property; Prima Facie Evidence; Rules and Regulations

Summary

Hunting, killing, wounding, or capturing any wild bird or animal inside the park is not allowed. The only exception is killing a dangerous animal when it is needed to protect people from death or injury. You also may not take fish from park waters except at the times and in the ways set by the Secretary of the Interior. The Secretary must write and publish general rules to manage and protect the park, its trees, minerals, natural features, and wildlife, and to set fishing rules. Having a dead wild bird or animal, or any part of one, in the park is taken as evidence that you likely broke the rule. People or carriers who know or should know the wildlife were taken illegally and who accept them for transport can be punished. Anyone who damages park buildings, signs, trees, springs, minerals, gardens, or other park property or who breaks the rules can be charged with a misdemeanor. The punishment can be a fine up to $500, up to six months in jail, or both, and the person must pay court costs.
