Title 16 › CHAPTER 1 — NATIONAL PARKS, MILITARY PARKS, MONUMENTS, AND SEASHORES › SUBCHAPTER LIX–ZZ — RECONSTRUCTION ERA NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK › § 410bbbb
Renames the Reconstruction Era National Monument as the Reconstruction Era National Historical Park. Money and official references that applied to the monument now apply to the park. The law also uses three maps from January 2017 to show the park and related sites. The Network named is the Reconstruction Era National Historic Network. The Secretary can expand the park by adding land in the Beaufort National Historic Landmark District, land next to or tied to the park on St. Helena Island, and federal land next to Camp Saxton. The Secretary can only get land by donation, exchange, or buying it with donated funds. The Secretary must run the park like other National Park Service units. If the park’s management plan was not finished by March 12, 2019, the Secretary must add these rules to planning and finish a plan within 3 years. If the plan was finished by that date, the Secretary must update it. The Secretary must create the Reconstruction Era National Historic Network inside the Park Service and ask sites to apply within 1 year after March 12, 2019. The Secretary will run the Network through the park. Duties include reviewing existing studies, making and sharing educational materials, giving technical help through agreements, creating an official Network symbol and rules for it, and doing research. The Network can include related Park Service units, other public or private historic properties that are on or eligible for the National Register, and other education or research sites. The Secretary may sign cooperative agreements and provide technical assistance to coordinate federal and nonfederal partners.
