Title 16 › CHAPTER 1 — NATIONAL PARKS, MILITARY PARKS, MONUMENTS, AND SEASHORES › SUBCHAPTER LIX–AA — CANE RIVER CREOLE NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK AND NATIONAL HERITAGE AREA › Part B — Cane River National Heritage Area › § 410ccc–23
Within 3 years after its first meeting, the Commission must write a heritage area management plan and send it to the Governor of Louisiana. If the Governor approves it, the Governor will send it to the Secretary. The Secretary and the National Park Service will give technical help and work so the plan fits with the park’s general management plan. The plan must take local plans into account and present one unified plan. It must include a list of important places and landscapes to protect, an analysis of current land uses, an interpretive plan for history and visitor use (made with the Park Service), recommendations for government coordination, and a program saying who should do what to carry out the plan. The Secretary must approve or disapprove the plan within 90 days of receiving it. The Secretary will check that there were public meetings and that State and local governments have given reasonable assurances that they support the plan and can carry it out. If the Secretary disapproves, they must give written reasons and help revise the plan. After changes, the Commission resubmits the plan to the Governor and the Secretary must act within 90 days of the revision.
