§410cc–34 Acquisition and Disposition of Property

Summary

The Commission may get the World Furniture Building (125 Central Street), the Martin Building (102–122 Central Street), or any interest in them by donation, by purchase with donated or appropriated money, or by legal taking (condemnation). Condemnation may only be used for properties inside the park or those two buildings. The Commission must try to buy the property first, consult the city council of Lowell, and get the Secretary’s approval before starting condemnation or taking land that way. With the Secretary’s approval, the Commission may sell or lease any property it gets and can add deed limits or other conditions to meet the subchapter’s goals. Under a written agreement and with the Secretary’s approval, the Commission may also sell, donate, lease, or otherwise give any such property to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts so the Commonwealth can manage or maintain it in line with the subchapter’s purpose.
