§410fff–6 Designation of Wilderness Within the Conservation Area

Summary

Designates the Gunnison Gorge Wilderness of approximately 17,700 acres inside the Conservation Area as part of the National Wilderness Preservation System. A roughly 300‑acre part of a former wilderness study area shown on the map is released from section 1782(c) of title 43 and is added to the Conservation Area. The Secretary of the Interior must manage the wilderness under the Wilderness Act while honoring any valid rights that existed on October 21, 1999. Colorado keeps its authority over fish and wildlife on these public lands. As soon as possible after October 21, 1999, the Secretary must file a map and written boundary description with the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and the House Resources Committee. That map and description are official, may be corrected for clerical errors, and will be kept in the Bureau of Land Management Director’s office.
