§410fff–6 Designation of Wilderness Within the Conservation Area

Summary

Designates the Gunnison Gorge Wilderness of about 17,700 acres inside the Conservation Area and makes it part of the National Wilderness Preservation System. A roughly 300-acre part of a wilderness study area shown on the map is released from the rules of section 1782 of title 43 and will not be subject to section 1782(c) of title 43, and that same 300-acre part is added into the Conservation Area. The areas must be managed under the Wilderness Act, but where that Act talks about its start date use the start date of this subchapter, and where it names the Secretary of Agriculture read that as the Secretary of the Interior. Management is subject to valid rights that existed on October 21, 1999. Colorado keeps its usual responsibilities over wildlife and fish under section 4(d)(7) of the Wilderness Act. As soon as practical after October 21, 1999, the Secretary of the Interior must file a map and legal description with the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources and the House Committee on Resources; that map and description have the same force as if printed in the law, may be corrected for clerical or typographical errors, and must be kept on file at the Bureau of Land Management director’s office.
