§410iii–4 Acquisition of Property

Summary

The Secretary may acquire land or land rights inside the Park only from willing sellers, by donation, by purchase using donated or appropriated funds, or by exchange. After acquiring land, the Secretary must add it to the Park boundary and manage it under the laws and rules that apply. The Secretary may also get personal property needed to help explain the Park to visitors. The Secretary may buy conservation easements or make covenants from willing sellers to protect scenic, natural, and historic resources on nearby lands and keep the Park’s setting and views. The National Park Service may also buy land just outside the Park, from willing sellers, for visitor, administrative, museum, curatorial, and maintenance facilities.
