§410jj–5 Special Needs of Leprosy Patients Residing in Kalaupapa Settlement; Specific Provisions

Summary

The Secretary must not allow more than 100 public visitors to the Kalaupapa settlement in a single day, as long as the patients want that limit. Hawaii will keep providing health care for the patients, with help from federal programs not covered by this law. Patients must be given the first chance to run money-making visitor services, such as food, lodging, transport, tours, and guides. Patients may keep taking and using fish and wildlife from the area without following federal fish and game rules. They may also gather plants and other natural resources for traditional uses, but they must follow any applicable state and federal laws.
