§410tt–2 Acquisition of Land

Summary

The Secretary of the Interior may acquire land or land rights inside the park by gift, by purchase using donated or appropriated money, or by exchange. The Government of the United States Virgin Islands may also acquire land or land rights in the park. Land owned by the U.S. Virgin Islands or its local governments can only be acquired by gift or exchange. Homes inside the park that existed on July 1, 1991 cannot be taken without the owner’s consent, unless after consulting the U.S. Virgin Islands government the Secretary finds the property is being or will be developed in a way that harms the park’s natural, scenic, historic, or other values the park protects.
