The Secretary of the Interior can accept gifts of land, property interests, buildings, and money that are within one mile of the Fort Donelson National Battlefield boundary as extended by earlier law. Ownership papers must satisfy the Secretary. The Secretary may use donated money to buy needed tracts within that mile at prices he finds reasonable, or take them by condemnation (a legal process to acquire property). Once added, the land becomes part of the battlefield and must follow its rules.
