§4304 Confidentiality of Information Concerning Nature and Location of Significant Caves

Summary

The public cannot get the exact location of any significant cave under section 552 of title 5 unless the Secretary decides that sharing it would help the chapter’s goals and would not create a substantial risk of harm, theft, or destruction to the cave. The Secretary may give location information to Federal or State agencies or to legitimate educational or research institutions if they send a written request that, at a minimum, describes the site, explains why the information is needed, and provides assurances acceptable to the Secretary that the location will be kept confidential and the cave protected from vandalism and misuse.
