§450rr–4 International Agreement

Summary

The Secretary must negotiate with the United Kingdom, France, Canada, and other interested countries to make an international agreement that names the R.M.S. Titanic as an international maritime memorial and allows research, exploration, and, if appropriate, salvage that follow the international guidelines in section 450rr–3 and the goals of sections 450rr to 450rr–6. The Secretary must work with the Administrator, who will give research and technical help. The Secretary and the Administrator must report twice a year on progress to the Committee on Merchant Marine and Fisheries and the Committee on Foreign Affairs in the House, and to the Committee on Foreign Relations and the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation in the Senate. When the agreement is adopted, the Secretary must notify those same committees and send recommendations for laws to carry out the agreement.
