Summary

Michigan stays in charge of managing fish and wildlife on lands the Secretary acquires and runs under this law, including setting rules for hunting, fishing, and trapping. The Secretary can, after talking with Michigan officials, create areas or time periods where hunting, fishing, or trapping is not allowed for safety, administration, to protect nongame species and their habitats, or for public use and enjoyment. After doing that, the Secretary must, as soon as possible and with state officials, notify nearby residents about what was done and where or when the restrictions apply. Except in emergencies, any rules the Secretary makes under this part must follow consultation with Michigan’s fish and wildlife agency.
