Title 16 › Chapter 1— NATIONAL PARKS, MILITARY PARKS, MONUMENTS, AND SEASHORES › Subchapter CXIII— SMITH RIVER NATIONAL RECREATION AREA › § 460bbb
Congress says the Smith River is undammed and flows freely from its source to the Pacific Ocean. Its watershed contains rare and varied habitats—from Siskiyou mountain conifer forests and unique North Fork serpentine plants to ancient redwoods—giving it unusual ecological diversity for its size. The river’s scenic beauty, strong fish runs, very clean water, wildlife, and easy access provide many recreation choices. Careful, compatible use of recreation, fisheries, and timber on public lands will help the local economy. Federal, State, and local governments should work together on land-use planning and management across the watershed.
