Title 16 › Chapter 1— NATIONAL PARKS, MILITARY PARKS, MONUMENTS, AND SEASHORES › Subchapter XCI— HELLS CANYON NATIONAL RECREATION AREA › § 460gg
Creates the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area to protect the area's natural beauty, historic and archaeological sites, the 71-mile stretch of the Snake River between Hells Canyon Dam and the Oregon–Washington border, parts of some tributaries, and nearby lands. It also aims to improve recreation, ecological values, and public enjoyment. The area includes Hells Canyon Wilderness, the Wild and Scenic River parts named by the Act, and certain wilderness study areas. A map titled "Hells Canyon National Recreation Area" dated May 1978 will be kept at the Forest Service. The Secretary of Agriculture must publish the detailed boundary description in the Federal Register no later than eighteen months after December 31, 1975.
