§460ii–5 Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area Advisory Commission

Summary

Creates the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area Advisory Commission. The commission must advise the Secretary about running the park, protecting its resources, and deciding which lands to buy first. The Secretary picks 13 voting members. Four are picked from people recommended by the county boards of Forsyth, Fulton, Cobb, and Gwinnett. One is from people recommended by the Governor of Georgia. One comes from the Atlanta Regional Commission. Four come from a group of citizens, public-interest, recreation, and environmental organizations. One is from the Business Council of Georgia or a nearby chamber of commerce. Two represent the general public, and at least one of those must live in one of the four counties named above. Members usually serve three-year terms and may be reappointed once for another three years. At the start, the four county picks serve one year, the Governor, Atlanta Regional Commission, business/chamber, and the two public members serve two years; the rest serve three. The commission must meet regularly, publish meeting notices and agendas in local newspapers that cover the park area, and hold meetings so the public can take part. Members are not paid, but the Secretary may pay reasonable expenses if the Chairman signs vouchers. The commission ends ten years after October 30, 1984 (that is, October 30, 1994).
