§460jjj–4 Acquisition of Land

Summary

Land inside the recreation area that is owned by the State of New Mexico or by a local New Mexico government can only be acquired by donation or by swapping it for other land. The Secretary can also get land there by donation, by buying it with donated or approved funds, or by swap. The Secretary cannot take land without the owner’s consent unless the land will be used differently than it was on October 12, 1993, and that new use would conflict with protecting the area’s natural and cultural resources.
