§460l–6c Admission, Entrance, and Recreation Fees

Summary

The Secretary of Agriculture may charge entrance or admission fees at national monuments, national volcanic monuments, national scenic areas, and at areas with heavy public use. The Secretary may also charge recreation-use fees for special outdoor sites, equipment, services, and facilities—like visitor centers, picnic areas, boat launches, and campgrounds. The Secretary sets the fee amounts. Definitions (one line each): An area of concentrated public use — a place run mainly for outdoor recreation that has facilities for heavy use, at least 1 major attraction, and access set up so fees can be collected at 1 or more central points. Boat launching facility — any boat launch, with or without special lifts or gear. Campground — a campsite that provides most basic services (for example: spaces for tents or trailers, water, an access road, trash and toilet facilities, staff fee collection, visitor protection, and simple fire rings when fires are allowed). Secretary — the Secretary of Agriculture.
