Protect and care for Steens Mountain so its natural health lasts for people now and in the future. The Secretary must manage the Cooperative Management and Protection Area for the benefit of present and future generations. That management must support cooperative projects with tribes, public agencies, and private landowners; allow sustainable grazing, recreation, and historic uses; make sure the Burns Paiute Tribe can access cultural, gathering, religious, and archaeological sites on Federal land; protect and improve the area’s ecological, social, and economic resources (like geology, wildlife, rivers, and scenery); and reduce conflict by encouraging communication and cooperation among users.
