§460nnn–72 Donner Und Blitzen River Redband Trout Reserve

Summary

Creates the Donner und Blitzen Redband Trout Reserve. It covers the Donner und Blitzen River in the Wilderness Area above where it meets Fish Creek and the nearby federal riverbanks. The river is named as special habitat for native fish, including a unique redband trout population, plus waterfowl and other wildlife. The reserve must protect and improve the trout population and the river ecosystem. It may allow scientific research, environmental education, and fish-and-wildlife recreation only if those do not harm the trout. Private lands next to the river are not included. The Secretary must manage the area under the Wilderness Act and the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, work with an advisory council and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, and manage recreation to protect the trout. The Secretary must remove a dam below Fish Creek and above Page Springs only if science supports it and money is available. The Secretary may also work with landowners, governments, and conservation groups on outreach, education, and cooperation.
