§460ooo–3 Establishment of the Las Cienegas National Conservation Area

Summary

Creates the Las Cienegas National Conservation Area in Arizona to protect many important natural, cultural, scientific, and recreational resources (for example: wildlife, plants, archaeological and paleontological sites, caves, and riparian areas) for present and future generations. Livestock grazing and recreation may continue where appropriate. The area covers about 42,000 acres in Pima and Santa Cruz Counties, shown on the map called “Sonoita Valley Acquisition Planning District and Las Cienegas National Conservation Area” dated October 2, 2000. As soon as practicable after December 6, 2000, the Secretary must send Congress a map and legal description. If that later map conflicts with the October 2, 2000 map, the October 2, 2000 map controls. The Secretary may fix clerical or typographical errors. Copies of the map and description must be kept at the Bureau of Land Management Director’s office and the BLM office in Arizona for the public to see. Lands inside the Coronado National Forest that lie within the Conservation Area are part of the Conservation Area, and the Secretary of Agriculture must change the Coronado National Forest boundaries to remove those lands.
