§460ooo–3 Establishment of the Las Cienegas National Conservation Area

Summary

Establishes the Las Cienegas National Conservation Area in Arizona to protect and improve many important natural, cultural, scientific, and scenic resources for current and future generations, while still allowing livestock grazing and recreation in suitable places. The protected resources include things like water and wildlife, plants, archaeological and paleontological sites, caves, cultural and historic places, and rangeland. The area is about 42,000 acres in Pima and Santa Cruz Counties, shown on a map dated October 2, 2000. The Secretary must send a map and legal description to Congress as soon as practicable after December 6, 2000. If that later map conflicts with the October 2, 2000 map, the October 2 map controls; the Secretary may fix clerical or typographical errors. Copies of the map and description must be kept at the BLM Director’s office and the BLM office in Arizona. Any land inside the Conservation Area that is now in Coronado National Forest becomes part of the Conservation Area, and the Secretary of Agriculture must change the forest boundary to remove those lands.
