§460rrr–2 Establishment of the Commission

Summary

Creates the Rio Grande Natural Area Commission. The Commission must advise the Secretary about the Natural Area and must prepare a management plan for non-Federal land in the Natural Area under section 460rrr–4(b)(2)(A). The Commission has nine members chosen by the Secretary: one to represent the Colorado State Director of the Bureau of Land Management, one who is the manager of the Alamosa National Wildlife Refuge (serving because of that job), three chosen from the Colorado Governor’s recommendations (one each for the Colorado Division of Wildlife, the Colorado Division of Water Resources, and the Rio Grande Water Conservation District), and four public members who live locally and have relevant knowledge. All members except the refuge manager serve five-year terms and may be reappointed. Members are unpaid. The Commission elects a chair, meets at least quarterly with public notice, and Federal agencies must, as much as practicable, provide requested information and technical help.
