§460rrr–2 Establishment of the Commission

Summary

Creates the Rio Grande Natural Area Commission to advise the Secretary and to write a management plan for non-Federal land in the Natural Area under section 460rrr–4(b)(2)(A). The Commission has 9 members chosen by the Secretary: 1 representing the Colorado State Director of the Bureau of Land Management, 1 who is the manager of the Alamosa National Wildlife Refuge (by virtue of that job), 3 picked from the Governor’s recommendations (one each from the Colorado Division of Wildlife, the Colorado Division of Water Resources, and the Rio Grande Water Conservation District), and 4 local public members with relevant knowledge. Members (except the refuge manager) serve 5-year terms and may be reappointed. Members are not paid. The Commission elects its chair. It must meet at least quarterly when the chair calls a meeting. Meetings are open to the public and announced beforehand. The Secretary and other federal agency heads must, when practical, give information and technical help the Commission asks for.
