The Secretary may take ownership of land outside the park if the land touches the park (or land already added) and he finds it would make an important contribution to the park’s purposes. He must first notify in writing the Congressional Committees on Interior and Insular Affairs, publish a notice in the Federal Register, and then manage the land as part of the park. Gifts may come from the State of Indiana, its local governments, private people, or organizations.
