§460uu–31 Designation; Description of Area

Summary

Two areas are set aside as wilderness and added to the National Wilderness Preservation System: Cebolla Wilderness (about 60,000 acres) and West Malpais Wilderness (about 38,210 acres). They are shown on the map titled "El Malpais National Monument and National Conservation Area," map number NM–ELMA–80,001–B, dated May 1987. That map is kept on file and can be seen in the office of the Director of the Bureau of Land Management, Department of the Interior. As soon as practicable after December 31, 1987, the Secretary must send a legal description of each wilderness area to the Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs of the House and the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources of the Senate. Those descriptions have the same effect as if written into the law, except the Secretary may fix clerical or typographical errors. The legal descriptions will also be on file and open for public inspection in the office of the Director of the Bureau of Land Management, Department of the Interior.
