§460vv–7 Botanical Areas

Summary

Designates two botanical areas in the Ouachita National Forest to protect and explain rare plant species and plant communities. One is the Robert S. Kerr Memorial Arboretum, Nature Center and Botanical Area, about 8,026 acres, shown on a March 1988 map. The other is the Beech Creek Botanical Area, about 400 acres, also shown on a March 1988 map. The Secretary of Agriculture must, as soon as possible after October 18, 1988, file those maps and legal descriptions with the named House and Senate committees. The maps count legally the same as if printed in the law and may be fixed for clerical or typographical errors. Copies will be kept for the public at the Office of the Chief of the Forest Service. The Secretary must manage the areas under the same laws and rules that apply to national forests and in a way that best protects and interprets the plants. Cutting or changing vegetation is allowed only when needed for protection or interpretation, except as provided in section 460vv–14. The Secretary may allow expansion of roads, improvements, and other facilities near the Robert S. Kerr Nature Center.
