§460vv–7 Botanical Areas

Summary

Sets aside two places in the Ouachita National Forest to protect and explain special plants and plant communities. One is the Robert S. Kerr Memorial Arboretum, Nature Center and Botanical Area (about 8,026 acres shown on a map titled “Robert S. Kerr Memorial Arboretum, Nature Center and Botanical Area—Proposed”, dated March 1988). The other is the Beech Creek Botanical Area (about 400 acres shown on a map titled “Beech Creek Botanical Area—Proposed”, dated March 1988). The Secretary of Agriculture must, soon after October 18, 1988, file those maps and legal descriptions with certain House and Senate committees and keep them available to the public in the Office of the Chief of the Forest Service. The maps count as part of the law, but clerical and typographical errors can be fixed. The Secretary must manage the areas under national forest rules to protect and interpret the plants. Cutting trees or other plant work is allowed only when needed for protection or interpretation, except as provided in section 460vv–14. The Secretary may allow larger roads, improvements, and other facilities near the Robert S. Kerr Nature Center.
