§460vv–9 Beech Creek National Scenic Area

Summary

Designates certain lands in the Ouachita National Forest, Oklahoma, as the Beech Creek National Scenic Area to protect scenery and wildlife. The area follows the map called “Beech Creek National Scenic Area—Proposed,” dated March 1988. The Secretary of Agriculture must file that map and a written boundary description as soon as practical after October 18, 1988, with the House Committees on Interior and Insular Affairs and on Agriculture, and the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry. The map and description count as part of the law and are kept for public viewing at the Forest Service office; clerical or typographical errors may be fixed. The Secretary must manage the area under the normal national forest laws to meet the protection goals. Timber work must promote a mixed hardwood and conifer forest with varied species and ages like natural growth, and with plenty of food-producing trees and den trees for wildlife. Management should use uneven-aged cutting, but even-aged methods may be used for public safety or to deal with fire, insects, or disease.
