Title 16 › Chapter 1— NATIONAL PARKS, MILITARY PARKS, MONUMENTS, AND SEASHORES › Subchapter CXXXIII— BRIDGEPORT WINTER RECREATION AREA › § 460vvv
About 7,254 acres of the Humboldt‑Toiyabe National Forest are officially set aside as the Bridgeport Winter Recreation Area, shown on a map dated September 17, 2008. As soon as possible after March 30, 2009, the Secretary must file that map and a legal description with the House Committee on Natural Resources and the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. That filed map counts the same as if it were written into the law, but the Secretary can fix errors and must keep the map available for public viewing at Forest Service offices. Until a new plan is finished, the area follows the Toiyabe National Forest 1986 management plan (as of March 30, 2009). Snowmobiles may be used in winter when there is enough snow and under conditions the Secretary sets. Within one year after March 30, 2009, the Secretary must run a public process to create a winter use plan that includes signs, public education, sanitation, monitoring and enforcement, and Trail protection. Enforcement must focus on stopping harm to natural resources, protecting nonmotorized Trail users, and reducing user conflicts. The Secretary must also set a safe snowmobile crossing of the Trail in the area shown on the map, following trail and safety laws and protecting the Trail and landscape. This designation does not stop activities by the U.S. Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center.
