Title 16 › Chapter 2— NATIONAL FORESTS › Subchapter II— SCENIC AREAS › § 543d
The Secretary must, within 180 days of September 28, 1984, hire the National Academy of Sciences to do a scientific study of the Scenic Area’s ecology. The study must include consultation with local, State, Federal, and private experts and use the Academy’s best scientific methods. The National Academy of Sciences must send its findings and recommendations to Congress. The final report must go to the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, the House Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs, and the Chief of the Forest Service by January 1, 1987. Progress reports must be sent on January 1, 1985, and on January 1 of each year after that.
