§543d Ecological Studies; Reports to Congressional Committees and to Chief of Forest Service; Progress Reports

Summary

The Secretary must, within 180 days of September 28, 1984, hire the National Academy of Sciences to do a scientific study of the Scenic Area’s ecology. The study must talk with knowledgeable local, state, federal, and private people and groups, use the Academy’s best scientific methods, and give findings and recommendations to Congress. The National Academy must send the final report to the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, the House Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs, and the Chief of the Forest Service by January 1, 1987. Progress reports must go to those congressional committees on January 1, 1985, and on January 1 of each year after that.
