Forest Service money must not pay travel costs for any Forest Service officer or agent unless the trip is directly for official Forest Service business and helps carry out work the law allows. Those funds also must not be used to pay for preparing or publishing newspaper or magazine articles. The agency can, however, share facts or official information with anyone, including reporters and publishers, without favoring some people. Scientific or technical articles in scientific journals are allowed.
