When the Secretary picks and trains up to 1,000 Forest Service special agents and law enforcement officers, they may carry guns while on duty. They can investigate drug crimes on National Forest lands and related crimes outside those lands if tied to forest offenses, and chase suspects who flee. They can make arrests with or without a warrant when they have probable cause, serve court orders, and, under federal law, search and seize evidence with or without a warrant.
