Summary

Defines "forestry research" to mean studies in eight main areas. These include growing and managing trees for wood and forest goods; managing forests and watersheds to control water flow, prevent floods, and stop erosion; managing forest and rangeland for livestock feed and wildlife habitat; managing land for recreation; protecting forests from fire, pests, and disease; finding ways to use wood and forest products; making good policies for managing, harvesting, and selling forest products; and any other studies needed to use forest resources fully.
