Last updated Apr 5, 2026|Official source

Summary

Buyers who won National Forest timber bids after January 1, 1974 can ask in writing for emergency changes to stumpage rates. Those new rates apply to timber scaled from January 1, 1981 until five years from October 16, 1984. The Secretary can change contract terms, including bid premiums, to keep those buyers competitive. These rules do not apply to holders of 50-year Alaska timber sale contracts.
