Title 16 › Chapter 5B— WILDLIFE RESTORATION › § 669f
The Secretary of the Interior must pay the amount set aside for a project to the state’s chosen official once the Secretary finds the project finished or, for wildlife research, being carried out according to the approved plans. The Secretary can make smaller payments as the work goes on, but all payments together cannot exceed the United States’ share of the project cost. If a State chose the comprehensive plan option in section 669e(a)(1) and the Secretary approved that plan, the Secretary may, under rules they set, advance money to cover the U.S. share the State and Secretary agree on. All construction work must follow state law and be directly supervised by the State fish and game department. The Secretary can inspect and approve the work and apply the chapter’s rules. The Secretary and the State fish and game department can decide together when and how much to pay. Payments are made by the U.S. Treasury after the Secretary of the Interior issues a warrant and go to the state officials or depositaries the State designates and that state law allows to receive public funds.
