§6706 Monitoring and Evaluation

Summary

The Secretary, working with the Secretary of the Interior, must finish and send a detailed review to the House Committees on Resources and Agriculture and the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources no later than 5 years after October 5, 2004, and every 5 years after that. The review must check if each Institute’s research, communication, and information-sharing are enough to meet the chapter’s goals — like using active adaptive ecosystem management across landscapes, cutting unnecessary planning costs, avoiding duplicate or conflicting work, improving public acceptance, and keeping affected groups generally satisfied. It must also check how well each Institute carried out the duties in section 6704(c) and whether federal assistance should continue. If the Secretaries find an Institute no longer qualifies, the Institute will receive no further federal assistance under this chapter until the Secretaries are satisfied it meets the qualifications again.
