Title 16 › Chapter 86— SOUTHWEST FOREST HEALTH AND WILDFIRE PREVENTION › § 6706

Last updated Apr 5, 2026|Official source

Summary

Within 5 years after October 5, 2004, and every 5 years after that, the Secretary must work with the Secretary of the Interior to finish and send a detailed review of each Institute’s programs to the Committee on Resources and the Committee on Agriculture of the House and to the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources of the Senate. The review must check, as much as possible, whether research, communication, and information-sharing meet the chapter’s goals (covering five goals such as landscape-level active adaptive ecosystem management, lower planning costs, avoiding duplicate or conflicting work, more public acceptance, and general satisfaction), whether each Institute carried out its duties under section 6704(c), and whether federal funding should continue. If, after that review, the Secretary and the Secretary of the Interior decide an Institute no longer qualifies for federal help, the Institute will get no more federal assistance until the Secretaries are satisfied its qualifications are restored.
