§6854 Data Consolidation and Publication of Route and Area Data for Public Recreational Use

Summary

Within 5 years after April 29, 2022, the Department of the Interior, the Forest Service, and the Army Corps of Engineers must put GIS map data on their websites, as applicable. The maps must show whether roads and trails on federal land are open or closed, the dates of seasonal closures, what kinds of vehicles and recreational uses are allowed on each road or trail segment (for example off‑highway vehicles, motorcycles, nonmotorized and electric bicycles, passenger vehicles, nonmechanized travel, and over‑snow vehicles), and the boundaries of areas where hunting or shooting is limited or closed. The agencies must update that information at least twice a year and create a way for the public to send questions or comments. The posted data must not reveal the location or details of historic, archaeological, or paleontological resources, consistent with the law.
