Title 16 › Chapter 9B— NATIONAL FISH HATCHERY SYSTEM ENHANCEMENT › § 760aa–4
Not later than 1 year after October 16, 2006, the Secretary of the Interior must prepare guidance for hatchery education programs. The guidance must support hatchery goals by creating outdoor classroom experiences that mix lessons with hands-on time about fish, other water animals, their habitats, and hatchery cultural or historical resources; by promoting understanding and conservation of those animals and resources; and by helping students improve scientific literacy in both formal and informal settings. Using that guidance, the Secretary may create or improve hatchery education programs with help from the Fish and Wildlife Management Assistance Program. Programs must fit each hatchery’s resources and the chances for school partnerships in State, local, and private schools. The Secretary should work with State and local education officials and may work with partner organizations as described in subsection (d) (subsection (d) has not been enacted).
