Title 16 › Chapter 100— NUTRIA ERADICATION AND CONTROL › § 8102
The Secretary of the Interior can give money to a State to help remove or control nutria and to restore marshes, wetlands, and farm land damaged by nutria. The amount a State gets depends on how much of the State is affected and the State must show it needs a program to do the work. Maryland must run programs that include management, research, and public education that follow the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service plan from March 2002. The federal government can pay up to 75% of a program’s costs. A State can meet its share with materials or services instead of cash. No more than 5% of the money given to a State may be used for administrative costs. Congress authorized $12,000,000 each year for fiscal years 2021 through 2025 for this help.
