§824w Joint Boards on Economic Dispatch

Title 16 › Chapter 12— FEDERAL REGULATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF POWER › Subchapter II— REGULATION OF ELECTRIC UTILITY COMPANIES ENGAGED IN INTERSTATE COMMERCE › § 824w

Last updated Apr 5, 2026|Official source

Summary

The Commission must set up regional joint boards to study how to run the electric system so it follows security limits while keeping service reliable and affordable. The Commission picks the regions, asks each State to name a member, and appoints one of its own members to chair each board. Each board’s only job is to study those issues and give recommendations to the Commission. Within 1 year after August 8, 2005, the Commission must send a report to Congress on the boards’ recommendations and may combine recommendations from more than one board, including shared calls for law or rule changes.
