Title 16 › CHAPTER 12A — TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY › § 831c–3
The Board may name corporation employees to serve as law enforcement agents. These agents must keep order and protect people and property on corporation lands and nearby areas the Board sets, and they must protect corporation property, officials, and workers even outside those areas. They can arrest without a warrant if a federal crime happens in front of them or if they have a reasonable belief someone committed a felony. They can carry out federal warrants or court orders, investigate such crimes if no federal agency is handling it or if that agency agrees, and carry firearms while doing these duties. This does not take away any federal agency’s investigative power or a State’s civil or criminal power on those lands. The Board will define nearby areas and publish that decision in the Federal Register. The Board and the Attorney General must set training and qualification rules. These agents are not treated as federal officers under other laws, and they do not get pay raises just because of this. Their duties must follow guidelines approved by the Attorney General.
