Title 16 › Chapter 12B— BONNEVILLE PROJECT › § 832k
The Administrator can decide, settle, and pay claims against the United States that are for $1,000 or less. To qualify, the claim must be written and filed within one year from when the loss happened. These claims cover losses, injuries, death, or damage caused by employees doing their jobs under this chapter. The Administrator can also settle claims the United States has against others for damage to property that the Administrator controls. If a private property claim is involved, the Administrator may fix the damage instead of paying money. The Administrator’s decisions on these claims are final and binding on other government officers, even if another law says something different. The Administrator may also, in the name of the United States and under the Attorney General’s supervision, bring or defend lawsuits needed to carry out this chapter. Court work will be handled by the U.S. attorneys for the districts where the case is filed, or by attorneys the Attorney General names, working with the Administrator’s regular lawyers.
