The official in charge must make and keep up an inventory and review of recreation resources on federal lands and water. The review must be made with public input and updated as needed. It must note special recreation values and places with heavy use. It must list and map sites by the kind of activity and the type of facilities or natural features, show how much they are used if known, and note any use trends when possible. For each site, the official must evaluate maintenance needs and costs, whether it could be developed or improved, and whether current management is adequate. When possible, the official should use existing research and plans.
