§8501 Promotion of Outdoor Recreation for Military Servicemembers and Veterans

Summary

By January 4, 2027, the responsible Secretary, working with the Secretary of Veterans Affairs and the Secretary of Defense, must create and give out easy-to-understand materials to members of the Armed Forces and veterans. Those materials must be shared with service members, including during preseparation counseling in the Transition Assistance Program. The materials must cover eight topics, including free access to federal lands and waters under section 6804; where to find accessible trails and new trails under section 8484; accessible recreation options and new projects under section 8485; help getting and using assistive technology; outdoor volunteer and wellness programs; how outdoor activities help physical and mental health; where to find guided trips and programs connected to DoD, VA, Interior, or Agriculture; and job or service programs like Public Land Corps, AmeriCorps, and conservation corps.
